Not an April Fools Joke

Monday April 1, 2024

Good morning Democrats!

I will try not to play any April Fools jokes on you today. It is bad enough we have plenty year-round fools willing to believe Trump reads a Bible.

We are on pins and needles waiting to see what SCOTUS does with Mifepristone. Just like we are waiting to see what the Floriduh Supremes do with the Abortion Amendment. I have it on good authority that CVS is getting ready to sell Mifepristone over the counter. Stock up folks just in case SCOTUS rules against 50% of the US population.

Women’s Rights are THE big issue this year. Deep red Alabama just elected a DEM Legislator in a RED district by thirty points. Abortion was the issue. Women’s Rights!

Meanwhile Trump keeps going further and further over the edge. He believes he can do anything. I honestly do not see him winning. Many Big-Name Republicans are starting to speak out. Ex-Pres. Bush even sent money to the big Triple bill Fundraiser for BIDEN in New York this past weekend.

Personally, I believe Trump is a Traitor. Not because he has any true convictions about politics, but because he is a spoiled man child con artist who is vulnerable to flattery and cash! Prove me wrong! The more he opens his lying mouth, the more evidence he gives us of his true self.

But Trump has collaborators. They are traitors as well. When our elected officials start supporting Putin and Orban, they are Fascist, power hungry traitors. And they are supported by the American Oligarchs!

WAKE UP PEOPLE! VOTE!!!

Moving on – beware of mis/dis-information. There are several global actors, and local actors who are using social media to poison the social contract between US citizens. Please take the time to verify sources and facts.

I get regular emails from a group called Florida Rising. They just published their 2024 Legislative Round-up. It is worth looking at. Here is the link: https://floridarising.org/

We must stay involved with local politics and in electing people who genuinely care about our community and have experience with the issues that impact our lives.
Here are some ways to do that:

Activist Meetings/events this week

Tuesday April 2

Wednesday April 3

  • The Key West Chapter of Drinking Liberally will meet at 5:30pm in the back room of VFW POST 3911, 2200 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Key West. It is NEVER boring!

Candidate events/info

Last week many of the DEMS running for local office held events or showed up for our meetings. (just another reason YOU should attend to meet them). If you would like a currant list of the DEMS running shoot me an email – chair@keysdems.com or visit the Supervisor of Elections website - https://www.keyselections.org/Candidate-Info/Candidates-Finances-Elections-2012-Current.

Local Government meetings this week.

Tuesday April 2

  • The Key West Tree Commission will meet at 5pm in City Hall. There are 5 Royal Poinciana’s on the chopping block and a few other doomed trees. I think we should make homeowners renovations consider the trees first. I have a need for oxygen!!! http://keywest.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx

Wednesday April 3

  • The Key West City Commission will meet at 3pm in City Hall in a workshop to discuss the Bond Issue! $$$ - no agenda

What have we learned from the Baltimore Bridge Disaster? We need immigrants! Seems Americans do not want to do this kind of work. Fixing potholes on a bridge at night.
I also have concerns about the size of these ships and the standards used by the companies that operate them. It will be interesting to see what the investigation turns up, but my money is on cost cutting and poor maintenance.

So, it’s April Fools Day! I hope the Keys Citizen has the balls to do what they did in the past. A special cover edition that was all an April Fools Joke! Some folks didn’t get it, but I thought it was so cleverly done. It should be a tradition!

Please remember to renew your Vote-by-Mail requests as many folks still do not realize they need to do this.

Here is a little statistic that gives me hope. Only Republicans could vote in Florida on March 19. Only 25% of them did in Monroe County. Across the country voter turnout for Trump is low. He is driving voters away with his violent rhetoric. Keep talking DON. You will convict yourself!

I will be out of town for a few days chasing an eclipse. Phil will be keeping you up to date on what we are doing.

Hint,
Phil Ehr, our candidate for Congressional Dist. 28, will be speaking at the Keys Dems meeting in Key West on April 9. Be there!
